Treasure Island Flea Market

We went for our morning walk today at the first weekend of the Treasure Island Flea Market.  Treasure Island, if you’re not familiar, is an island in the middle of the San Francisco Bay between San Francisco and Oakland.  It was created in the 30’s from fill dredged from the bay, for the Golden Gate International Exposition.  It became a naval base after the World’s Fair and was a major Navy departure point for sailors leaving to the Pacific.  Treasure Island is now decommissioned and being used for other things…. Like a flea market with the most awesome views ever.

Here’s the panorama from standing across the street from the Flea Market:

In as far as flea markets are concerned, it was okay… It was sparse, really, compared to the Alameda Point Flea Market, but it has potential, great scenery, and some fun vendors selling everything from mini donuts, plants, vintage stuff, and crafts.

And you can’t beat that view.

Mosaic Eggs

cement, eggseggs, cementEggs, Plastic, Easter eggs
They started as large plastic Easter eggs from Michael’s.  They ended up encased in plastic cement, fiberglass, thinset, tile, and grout.
They’re a gift for friends with chickens in their backyard.  What will the chickens will think of them? (You can see by her expression that Schnap does not appreciate being thrown into the picture for scale)
