Many gingerbread houses were made and decorated this weekend at the annual holiday extravaganza. I found and bought on a whim this cookie cutter at Safeway of all places.

The cutter is currently $3.99 in the section with holiday things like Christmas colored sprinkles and cupcake papers. I think it’s genius. I went back and bought more for gifts.
We preassembled the pieces so that the royal icing had time to dry before little and big hands started frosting and attaching candies. That’s the important part anyway, right?
They were small enough for guests to complete decoration within the confines of a party where there are lots of other activities. One house fits on a paper dessert plate. Decorating with candies doesn’t take 10lbs of candy per house. And the whole edifice is entirely and reasonably consumable.

We had a beady, eyebally, crafty day yesterday. Katherine England came and shared her secrets on seed bead mosaic, the importance of eyeballs, eyebrows, epoxy, and hand lotion.
Every box was enhanced with eyeballs and plenty of bling!
