Bloggers Block of the Month #2

Block of the Month
Here it is. Block number 2 of my very first quilt a long.  This one is by Vicki Welsh who blogs at Field Trips in Fiber

Why is it that I can have unfinished projects stacked willy- nilly,  but am chafing at how long this project is going to take? Why is it that I want the full strategy of the quilt laid out for me on this, but I really like improvisational quilting with scraps dragged out of the bin by my dogs?  What is it with so many questions….This is becoming a mystery quilt.

Anyway, here’s  a link to the Flickr group to see all the variations.  I’m finding this part of the quilt a long fascinating.  It’s an interesting exercise seeing how the color, contrast, pattern and value selections make a huge difference in how the star stands out.

Yarn Art

Fiber and color will always stop me in my tracks.  I saw this installation in the window of Nine Rubies, the local yarn store, screeched to a halt, and ran in to take pictures.

The colors are luscious, the mohair lends a fuzziness that blends the colors, and the tassels at the bottom are fun and fluffy. (I wanted to run my hands through them though I restrained myself).

I didn’t fully capture their essence – the yarn pillars changed through intriguing shadows and colors as the light shifted in the 10 minutes I was around them.
