Quilting has continued as evidenced by the quilt above. Having gotten into a groove of improvisationally piecing first Matisse things, then an alligator, then fish, a whole world of possibility sort of representational piecing without pattern pieces is now opened up to me. I made the Totoro (and friend) quilt this week for one of my daughter’s birthday presents. I still need to bind it, but I didn’t take pictures of the process because I didn’t want to give the surprise of the quilt away.
Now that the Totoro is out of the box, I can share!
Totoro is a magical protective creature that lives in the forest. Created by Hayao Miyazaki, we have loved My Neighbor Totoro since the kids were small. And as small children are wont to insist, we’ve watched the movie countless times.
My children are no longer small, but they still love Totoro. The story is charming, the animation is gorgeous. If you have not seen it, it’s worth at least one viewing – if not the hundreds of times we’ve seen it.
By the way – You may have noticed a break in blogging. Funny how easily getting out of the rhythm of things works. It is almost easier blogging every single day than getting back into it. Oh well. I’ll try to be more constant!
**I was inspired by Totoro colored corduroy to make Totoro quilt #2 last November. The post about it is here and here. And here’s a picture.
