Glass was hard to come by in the late 1500’s in India. But windows and screens were needed. The solution throughout palaces and forts during India’s Mughal reign was to build in screens carved out of stone – in this case sandstone.
parrot screenThe artisan carvers made each and every screen different.
They remind me of sampler quilt blocks where the repeating forms echo and relate to each other in scale, but are each unique. Triangle Hexagon
