Fat Tuesday Meets Thursday

The Fat Tuesday group got together today to chow down. We went to the grand opening of Bun Mee on 2015 Fillmore, SF today. Denise Tran opened what could be the first of many Bun Mee’s to come. Bun Mee serves Vietnamese food with a bit of a Western twist and in a very hip (though small) store.

The focus is on Vietnamese sandwiches – traditionally seen on menus spelled ‘Banh Mi’. I suppose you could call these sandwiches a positive product of French Colonialism in Indochina. They evolved from a French baguette sandwich to a Vietnamese sandwich with roasted meat, cucumbers, cilantro, hot peppers and pickled carrots and an optional fried egg.

True to Fat Tuesday group’s way, but we tried close to everything on the menu. No dainty eaters here.

My personal favorites: The Roasted 5 spice Chicken Bun Mee with Sweet Potato Fries and Red Curry Aioli. The Tumeric Fish and Chips with Catfish and Sweet Potato Fries. And the Chocolate Coconut sandwich cookies.We didn’t manage to check off any boxes in the 7×7 100 Things to Eat and Drink list, so if nitpicking was in order, this eating expedition was off topic, not on a Tuesday, and not at all goal driven. But it was tasty, good company, and worth the trip as well as the calories.

Not a trend

Two posts in one day yesterday and now again today. Have I taken leave of my senses? Do I have nothing better to do than blob, blob, blob? I’m sure you’re all thinking that, just not telling me.

I have news for you. Yesterday’s double blog was a mistake. Note to self: the “Publish” button is blue. The “Preview” button is white. Today’s second blog entry is self congratulatory.

You see I had a public goal for the month of March: Make a quilt and enter it into the Project Modern Quilt Challenge, and blog about the process. Check. I also had a private goal for March: Blog every day. Write something. Post it. Get it out there. And now it’s April so I met that goal – I blogged every day in March. (Okay, there was a guest post from C0-Blogger, but I did the typing) Twice even some days. See all those blue days? Blue days are days that I blogged. Check.

Thanks for sticking with me. That’s a lot of reading. You’re the best. No fooling.

Kaleido Entry

I ended up with this one being my favorite shot of the whole quilt. It’s sort of a mix between spaceship/snowflakes and a good shot of the interesting stuff going on.

March 31st, was the entry deadline for the Project Modern Monochromatic Challenge #2, so the email was sent.

Regardless of whatever the Project Modern folks say or don’t, this was a successful project for me. I made new friends, learned new things, and started and finished a good sized quilt.

I’m inspired by some of the colors that other folks used in their Kaleidoscopes so I might get some color on the cutting table now. So many projects, so little time…onward!
