Blooming

The raised beds are built, filled, irrigated and ready to go.  Planning the planting plan has begun for the veggies.  I’ve got information and seeds gleaned from last week’s garden show to help, not to mention a co-gardener who loves to dig.

It finally feels like Spring this week…A vast difference from the raging wind and rain from the week before.  The flowers have decided that it’s safe to come out and play.

The binding is on and loose threads are tied off and nipped away. I’ve decided I like the quilting on this after all. The meandering fits the snowflake theme I think. It’s a gentle snowfall with flakes drifting down vs. a raging storm which I think straight line quilting would’ve represented. Taking a picture of a full quilt is hard to do. The ones we took with the quilt held up (in natural light at about 4pm)  don’t do the quilt justice because the piecing I did on the backing showed through, making a distracting stripe shadow down the middle of the quilt.  I didn’t see the stripe until I downloaded these pictures tonight, too late to retake in the sunlight.

The ones taken with the quilt on the lawn give the snowflake/kaleidoscopes a  ‘spaceship flying away from the camera’ look. Also not what I am looking for.

I’m going to try taking shots tomorrow in different daylight and see if I can do better.  This quilt is not done teaching me lessons from experience.

Nothing is a waste of time if you use the experience wisely.  ~Auguste Rodin

Kaleido Quilted

MeanderI’m not sure if this was mistake or not, but I decided on an all over meander pattern to quilt this.  Things I thought of doing, but didn’t:

  • Straight-ish lines
  • A grid
  • Swirly circle things
  • More snowflakes
  • Some combination of all of the above.

Kaleidoscope Snowflake Quilt

I decided on the safe meander route.  Here I’ve posting things about taking risks and not being ‘regular’ and here I am not following my own council.  But I went with meander because this has ended up being quite a large quilt – 98″x72″ and I was concerned that I’d never be able to execute any of the above in a decent sort of way over that large a surface area.

Excuses, excuses, rationalization, excuses.  To me, the craftsmanship and execution of an idea is as important as the taking the risk.  And I knew I could do a good meander. So there.
