The Conundrum

The guy in this is just like one of the voices in my head.  I really do try to not be wasteful of paper and make full use of the electronic gadgets at hand when I can.  But it’s hard for a Luddite at heart like me.  In the end I’m more like Emma.  I like my books, notepads, Post-its, and toilet paper real, not virtual.

Spring

piecedgoods Broccoli 092 piecedgoods DaffodilsOut in the garden, spring is springing. The flowers, veggies and trees are all pushing buds out, erupting with exuberance.piecedgoods Plum Tree Piecedgoods GoldyI have a glazed bowl out in the garden in which some  glass balls and water hyacinth float.  The water hyacinths are looking a bit tired after winter but are coming back slowly. And the carnival goldfish that we placed into the bowl over 2 years ago comes up from the depths of the bowl to bask in the sunlight, nibble things, and say hello.

Scrappy Update

piecedgoods Scrappy Quilt Following up on the last Scrappy post, the Scrappy Trip Around the World quilt is finally quilted, bound…finished!

Scrappy Quilt 083

I long arm quilted it in spirals, one of my personal favorite long arm quilting patterns. I’m not good at doing straight lines or regular shapes like scallops on the long arm. The machine is too wiggly for me to do those to my liking. (Okay, maybe I’m too wiggly)  And I like free forming things like spirals, flowers, feathers, leaves and the like more anyway. So there.

The only danger on the spirals is getting carried away making them.  I don’t have a stitch regulator on the long arm – it’s a old used bare bones basic one (I’m not complaining) – and I find going around the bigger curves I’m tempted to zoom around too fast, making the stitches there too big.

Note to self: Long Arm stitching stays more constant when not hopped up on caffeine.

Straight lines  and regular shapes I’ll  leave to quilting on the standard machine, though this quilt would’ve been a bugaboo to quilt (or wrassle) on a standard machine.  It’s 87″x72″ before washing.

The back is this friendly fish print from Brandon Mably named ‘Gone Fishing’.  I wish I’d had enough fabric to match the fish print along the seam line, but I had just enough to cover the back, leaving some fish decapitated and others tail-less.  Poor fish. Oh well.  They look happy nonetheless.
