NASA retired the space shuttle fleet but the shuttle named Endeavour went on a retirement tour before being grounded for good. It was supposed to fly over the Bay Area yesterday, but the flight was postponed due to fog, and it happened today instead.
It worked out perfectly for me. I’d thought I had missed it yesterday while busy with other stuff. But then I read in the paper that the flyby was going to occur around 10:30am today in my area.
We went to the Palo Alto Wildlife Refuge with a bunch of other like minded folks to say farewell.

Actually, I should say ‘hot’ stuff. There are lots of melty smelty soldery things going on here. If you happen to be into burning, torching, welding, cutting, sawing, melting, hammering, soldering, molding, or grinding, this is the place for you.
We were there during a relatively quiet period. The next sessions of classes are about to start up soon. I’m told that ordinarily the place can be deafening with all the activity.
There’s even a room for just grinding things.
