Quiltsurround

Craftzine posted about this installation in Memphis, Tennesseee. I clicked on the link, which led me to another link.  And there went the morning.

Anyway,  I’m not sorry.  Go check it out when you have a few moments.  Here’s the link to  Jenean Morrison’s pictures, the Urban Art Commission pictures, and here is the link to a Memphis Flyer article about it.

These are quilts made out of over 700 old signs.  You know, the kind that have speed limit, caution, no parking, etc that are made of aluminum?

Greely Myatt and some of his University of Memphis students cut those into pieces and made 32 ‘quilts’.   If you want to be literal, they’re panels since they’re not really quilted.  They hide a chain link fence and some ugly heating and cooling system stuff at City Hall.

More Swooning with Linen

I posted about Swooning with Linen back in January. (For even more swooniness, go here, and here…and if you want to know what the world wide web  – at last count, 809 members! – is doing with the Swoon block, go here).

Here’s where I’m at with my Linen Swoon Quilt.  Pictures taken on a bright shiny day on the lawn so you’re seeing the crinkliness of the linen  (Truth be told, the linen part is the background – the color areas you see are 100% cotton).

I’m toying with borders or not, more linen or not, and what kind of quilt backing I want to use.  With the natural linen in the front, I’m inclined right now to quilt with linen on the back as well to see how that turns out.  I’ve never used linen on the back of a quilt. I’ll keep you posted on how that goes.
