The Next Quilt – Kaleidoscope

After much heated debate, a coffee break, and some additional discussion, my co-quilter and I have decided to try making a kaleidoscope quilt using instructions from this book.Ricky Tims' Kool Kaleidoscope Quilts: Simple Strip-Piecing Technique for Stunning Results

We’re going to bravely forge new pathways (for us, anyway) by coloring this quilt monochromatically so we can participate in the Project Modern Quilt Challenge #2, AND we’re going to take the Process Pledge and show the work in progress, through design, re-design, second guessing, sewing, ripping, sewing some more, teeth gnashing, rearranging and finishing.

There may be posts on other things in between.  We are easily distracted by food, drink, robins, rabbits, gardeners, and other foolishness.  There will be fits and starts.  But between the Challenge due date (Mid March, I think) and the Process pledge, we’ve got a an achievable goal and we’re going to go for it.

I attended a Ricky Tims seminar in January and declared in a blog post that a Kaleidoscope quilt was my next machine pieced project. Of course, I keep getting distracted. But maybe I should join you and Schnap on this journey. I’ll get out my book and start some serious thinking.

I got my 18″ freezer paper square cut and the big pieces marked. That’s a start. Now I have to decide how to divide the middle slice and get sewing on some strata.

You are really cooking…. I’m getting to work on this now!
