Macaroons in France are like cupcakes in the US. They’re the chic treat in pretty colors, packages and flavors. They’re all over with jewelbox-like shops each displaying their little confections in unique ways.
French macaroons are a completely different cookie than the American coconut macaroon. 
They’re a whole lot lighter in texture (but probably not in calories), and they’re a sandwich cookie. And devastatingly hard to pass up.
Throughout this past trip there were faces as ornament carved into stone.
I wonder who was immortalized in stone – not just in big fancy sculptures and fountains, but over doorways, windows, and on fence posts.
It is still under construction and will be for another couple of decades. But it is a magnificent and wildly unique cathedral.
The amazing design – and perhaps partly because it is still under construction – being in the space feels like being inside of a living, breathing organism.
