Did you know that today is National Punctuation Day?
Well, it is, and I nearly missed it.
In honor of Punctuation Day, here’s one of my favorite videos. Victor Borge was best known as a pianist. But did you know that he also introduced many children, myself included, to “Phonetic Punctuation” on a show called “The Electric Company“?
Should you be further inspired by today and this video, there’s a contest where you can submit your choice of the most Presidential Punctuation Mark. Go to the National Punctuation Day site for more details, and let me know if you do!
Victor Borge does his famous phonetic punctuation, that is, adds sound to periods, commas, dashes, etc. while reading a romantic story from a book.
Victor Borge created a TV and nightclub act called “Phonetic Punctuation” in which he told a story with onomatopoeic sounds and hand gestures for every punctuation mark. His question mark was particularly dramatic. Watch it on YouTube .
